PMNCH is partnering with the Canadian Partnership for Women and Children’s Health (CanWaCH), Global Affairs Canada, Every Woman Every Child and the WHO to convene the Global Adolescent Health Conference to be held in Ottawa, 16 to 17 May.
The Women’s G7 Forum “Starting from girls,” took place on 7-8 April at the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in Rome. The Forum centered on the principle that strengthening young women’s rights and capabilities is essential in their transformation into envoys of change. Gender equality is a priority area in the Italian G7 Presidency agenda and this gathering aimed to formulate policy recommendations to convey to the Heads of State and Government meeting in Taormina at the end of May.
Parliamentarians from more than 130 countries gathered at the 136th IPU Assembly in Dhaka, Bangladesh to debate how to end economic, political and social inequalities, including those related to adolescents’ health. As well as co-hosting a side-event, PMNCH was involved in parliamentarian discussions on women’s, children’s and adolescents’ health issues which were reflected widely throughout the IPU Assembly agenda. PMNCH will be working with partners on follow up and action on the 2012 IPU resolution on Access to health as a basic right that will be further debated at the St. Petersburg Assembly in October.
Over 300 participants from more than 25 countries met to discuss community health and empowerment at the Institutionalizing Community Health Conference in Johannesburg. Through a mix of plenaries and break-out sessions, participants had the opportunity to engage in collective dialogue and shared learning that combined global and national evidence with country experiences and perspectives on community health and empowerment.
